Dec. 25th, 2011 03:57 pmIt's come to my attention that quite a few writers have penned some DS9 stories for Yuletide! Check them out here:

"Will you explain kissing to me, Julian?"
Nov. 10th, 2011 09:28 amSo I butted in on a tumblr conversation based on a gif set by FuckyeahTNG, capping the meeting between Data and Julian Bashir in TNG's "Birthright," and before you know it, it turned into a story idea that airandangels is filling!
It's a Starfleet Academy AU, in which Julian and Data meet there instead of on the Enterprise, and they explore science and each other in the most delightful way! Here's the first chapter, come squee with me!

Smokers are Evil. At least on TV.
Oct. 3rd, 2011 07:38 amJust another example of one of my favorite film & TV tropes: Smokers are evil.
In Downton Abbey, a British soap opera set during WWI, disgruntled footman Thomas and scheming ladies' maid O'Brien plot to take down their perceived enemies during that time so sacred to TV villians everywhere: the smoking break. While they puff, they vent their vitriol and conspire to manipulate those who would oppose them!
But the end of Season One brings O'Brien's comeuppance: she makes a mistake that moves her stony heart to regret and even sympathy for someone she's wronged. When we revisit her plotting with Thomas in Season Two, it's not enough to show us through dialogue and action that she's had this change of heart. No, there is only one thing that will convey to the audience the depth of her character's development. When she stands in the courtyard to plot her next move with Thomas, he is smoking, and she is not. Yes, gentle viewers, regret has cured her addiction to tobacco!

Finished DS9 rewatch. Satisfied, but sad.
Aug. 4th, 2011 12:11 pmWhat a great show. Sure I have some quibbles with the final season (Dukat possessed by a Pah Wraith was definitely a jump-the-shark moment) but overall I was left with a great feeling of satisfaction. Nice tie-ups for all the characters.

Just started Season 7 of DS9
Jul. 16th, 2011 11:04 amAnd I really hate Ezri. I don't want to, but her character is so annoying.
( I want to like her so much more than I do. )

Best Star Trek fanfiction of 2010
Dec. 26th, 2010 08:29 amIt was a great year for fanfiction, particularly for the Star Trek fandom. Authors really started to stretch their wings and branch out into strange new AUs and seek out new angles on the old characters. Here are a few of my favorite stories from 2010. Thank you to all the authors who have given me so much pleasure!

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.
RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh

Chulu sighting - well, almost!
Oct. 11th, 2010 08:08 am Saturday night I went to a swanky Hollywood party. A big one. The kind where you have to check in at one location, get a wristband, hop a shuttle, and get to a second location via shuttle. As I stepped up to the check-in desk to get my wristband, whose deep voice stated his name right behind me?

But I was trying to skew it to get Mr. Spock! Close but no cigar.

Sep. 3rd, 2010 12:44 pmWell I did, anyway. I've registered a journal here in the wake of the LJ debacle over allowing cross-posting to Facebook & Twitter. Not sure why they'd want to do that in the first place, but many LJ decisions make no sense to me, so why should this be any different?
So far I have NOTHING on this journal, but I had very little on my LJ journal either. Sadly, I have few talents to showcase. Mostly I used the LJ journal to keep track of the wonderful talents of others, as I am a voracious consumer of Trek-related fanfiction and artwork. This journal is likely to be, well, more of the same.
