 Futurama's back and it's better than ever!


Things I loved: The lines! So many funny lines just like I remembered from its first run on tv and the movies.  Bender: "I hate partying! If only I didn't have so much crunk in my bedunkadunk!"

Leela-on-Leela battle over Fry!  "Back off you slut-clops!"

Also I loved that moment when Leela & Fry kissed and it turned into an electrical maelstrom (because by that time they were both robots). Boy, do I want an icon of that!

I know this seems like I ship Fry & Leela hard, but really I love the way they handle their relationship as is. They touch on relationship stuff but are then quick to take advantage of the humor of the silly situations. And I don't get weirded out when Leela sleeps with another guy or with Zapp  -- although I admit in the second episode that aired it got a little creepy with the trapped-naked-Leela storyline.  But again, it was the trapped-naked element that creeped me out, rather than the Zapp element - he's one of my favorite characters. 

Just my brief thoughts on last nights episodes - I'm so stoked the show is back!

It is far too soon to tell, but did the plotting and characterization seem a little sloppy to you? In S06E01, why was Zapp there? (Because he needs to have survived, "somehow.") Where did Kiff go? In S0602, why is Zapp physically stronger than Leila? Why is Leila so stupid and Zapp so clever? Not only stupid enough to almost instantly trust Zapp, but also enough to believe their stealth fighter came equipped with an old-timey sailing ship's telescope. (Okay, that's kind of funny.) And, most difficult to accept of all, why did she agree to bring Zapp in the first place?

It's not really unusual for a character to suddenly act out-of-character for the sake of a gag or even a plot point, but I always thought they took a lot of care to either lampshade it or hang a lantern on it. It's like they don't even care that we're a bunch of hyperattentive geeks with OCD anymore!

Well Zapp was in 601 because the Nimbus was chasing them and crashed right after them. And Kif was there too! I could have sworn I saw him behind the "horror cloth" and being rebirthed with "the rest."

And yeah, Leela was kinda stupid in the 2nd episode but they did say she was dehydrated...lol! I bought it, anyway. All those salty nuts turn girls dumb, didn't you know that? I thought the reveal that the telescope had been a toilet paper roll was hilarious!

Maybe I'm just high on having the show back, or maybe I'm dehydrated and not thinking clearly. Gotta lay off the salty nuts!

Zapp did not have a protective helmet, yet he is in the same condition as everyone else. The entire crew of the Nimbus, however, are lost. This implies something extraordinary happening to Zapp, but it is never explained.

Kiff's body is in several shots, but then after the stem cell bath he just stops existing for a while, rather conspicuously I thought.

You make a good point about salty nuts. This requires some empirical research. I shall return.
