I watched an episode of the BBC's "Sherlock," "A Scandal in Belgravia," which I chose because I've read that story.

When Benedict Cumberbatch was announced as the newest cast member for Star Trek 2013, I was substantially less enthused than the rest of fandom, which seemed to have a collective nerdgasm over it. So I decided to watch an episode to find out what all the fuss was about, and hopefully to get as enthusiastic as the rest of the world.

It was great, of course. The casting is excellent and the cinematography is gorgeous. I particularly like the way they pace the show, with moments of deep quiet to emphasize emotional turning points.

I can't say I've fallen in love with Cumberbatch. I do adore his gorgeous voice, but I can't help but wish he was a little more conventionally attractive. However, everyone else in the Star Trek Reboot is practically a GQ model, so perhaps his more unique angles will be a breath of fresh air amongst those too-pretty faces.

I can only assume he's going to play Gary Mitchell - certainly his "Sherlock" persona would lend itself to that: the arrogance and intelligence.
